Accessibility statement

Last reviewed October 20, 2026.

We want everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification or voice control, to be able to use HomeCareFinder. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We haven't been independently audited or certified, and we don't claim full conformance.

What we do

  • Plain-language pages with one main heading, ordered headings and descriptive link text.
  • Pages are built to work with a keyboard alone, show a visible focus outline and start with a "Skip to content" link.
  • Form fields have visible labels, and newsletter and quiz results are marked up so screen readers announce them.
  • Text and labels are checked for color contrast.
  • Pages reflow to a single column at 400% zoom, and the site has no autoplaying video or flashing content. Motion effects are turned off if your device asks for reduced motion.
  • We don't use accessibility overlay widgets.

How we checked

On October 20, 2026 we ran automated axe-core checks (WCAG 2.0, 2.1 A and AA rules) on a sample of pages at desktop and phone widths, and checked keyboard use, focus, zoom and reflow, contrast, form labels and reduced motion by hand. We fixed what we found. We'll re-check when we change the design.

Known limits

  • We haven't yet tested with screen reader users or with JAWS, NVDA or VoiceOver end to end.
  • Some wide tables (costs and the care comparison) scroll sideways on small screens.
  • The care quiz and the cost-by-state picker need JavaScript; the same information is in tables on the page.
  • Data downloads (CSV and JSON) are raw data files, and provider names and addresses appear as CMS and state agencies publish them.
  • Sites we link to, including Medicare.gov, state agencies, providers and the newsletter's confirmation pages and emails sent through beehiiv, are outside our control.

Hit a barrier? Tell us

Email [email protected] with the page address and what went wrong. We'll reply, fix what we can, and get you the information another way in the meantime.
