Memory care in California
Quick answer
In California, memory care is provided by licensed residential care facilities for the elderly (RCFEs). RCFEs that accept residents with dementia must meet extra state rules, and those that advertise dementia or memory care programs must meet additional requirements in Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations. CDSS's public facility data doesn't say which RCFEs offer memory care, so we don't publish a California memory care list. Ask each RCFE whether it has a dementia care program and a secured area, and check its record on CDSS Care Facility Search.

- Is there a nurse on site, and when?
- What happens if care needs grow beyond what you provide?
